Global Methane Status Report released by UNEP!
Produced by UN Environment Programme and Climate & Clean Air Coalition, the Global Methane Status Report assesses progress under the Global Methane Pledge and the scale of action still required.
Key highlights:
- Methane accounts for nearly one-third of current global warming
- Current policies lower 2030 projections—but fall short of the 30% reduction target
Full implementation of existing measures could deliver:
– 32% reduction by 2030
– 0.2°C avoided warming by 2050
– 180,000 fewer premature deaths annually
– $330+ billion in annual benefits
Energy, waste, and agriculture hold the largest mitigation potential—but only if proven solutions are fully implemented, financed, and monitored with robust data.
Cutting methane is one of the fastest, most cost-effective pathways to slow near-term warming while delivering major health and food-security benefits.
